On handling rejection…

Once I was rejected by a Senior in the most painful way possible. For reasons unknown, this lawyer’s junior forwarded the call recording (not meant for my ears) from his boss, flaying my arguments and writing skills. I sat around for a few days moping.

Then I showed the same draft to another lawyer. Guess what? He liked it.

That is when I realised even if one senior hates you, there are plenty who will love you. So just get out there and find lawyers who treat you right. Don’t think of every rejection, and every rewrite request as a failure – they just come with the territory.

Even if you do make a mistake, work at fixing it as soon as possible and learn from it.

Work at projecting confidence. It does not come naturally to everyone, but the good news is that, like many other things, it can be faked. Eventually, you will make it and will not have to fake it.
