I’ve noticed one strange thing in the Delhi Courts, the worth of a lawyer is measured mainly in terms of the number of juniors who follow him from court to court.
And with these kinds of lawyers, you’ll have no chance to learn anything when so many attention-seeking juniors want to have an orgy with your Senior.
All the juniors do in these chambers is just run ahead of the senior as he goes from court to court to tell the judge that the big boss is arriving, or is on his legs in another court, or has a bad stomach and is not going to appear.
It is a dog-shit job for newbies: like playing a plastic trumpet for a fake Mughal emperor in a budget Bollywood costume drama of the 1940s.
In six months, you’ll be ready to slash your wrists.
Better to join competent but less successful lawyers.
They will have a certain amount of work and besides as a junior, you will be able to interact with this class of seniors and perhaps learn something.
It is much better than becoming a basta vakil (a bag carrier), carrying files for a hotshot Supreme Court senior for the rest of your life, standing behind him cheering and applauding his brilliant arguments just to get at the sorry crumbs he would throw at you when the mood took him.
